==== Premise ====This game is about an Inquisitor descending into hell to save his beloved. The setting is original, not related to Golarion.
Pathfinder 2 Remaster. I have the books if you need them
Tonally, the game is deadly serious. No tomfoolery. This is not Hazbin Hotel.
==== World ====Generic fantasy. When writing your backstory, you can invent whatever you want for the "upper" world – the whole game will take place in hell anyway, which none of the characters are familiar with.
There is one deity in the world, and all characters believe in Him. When submitting an application, the Inquisitor may describe this religion, within a loosely "Abrahamic" template. The tenets are fairly flexible, but we're aiming for something like Christianity or Islam. The deity is omnipotent, omniscient, and created this world. The deity's alignment is Lawful Good. There is a hell, a heaven, angels, demons, and the concept of sin.
There are no planes besides the material plane, hell, and heaven.
==== Character generation: backstory ====Four players.
One of the four is the Inquisitor (any gender). A deeply devout person from the upper echelons of the local church. His inciting incident is that his beloved (any gender) was kidnapped by demons and sent to hell. And so he set off into hell to save them. Alone, because everyone else deemed him mad.
Besides the Inquisitor's own backstory, whoever applies for the Inquisitor will also need to describe their beloved. No major restrictions, anything goes (except children, please).
They will also need to describe the religion and – most importantly – their character's attitude toward it and their understanding of it. I may veto certain aspects of the religion if they turn out to be incompatible with the upcoming story.
The Inquisitor's application will set the tone for the whole story and will constrain the generation of the other characters.
The title "Inquisitor" is a stand-in – if you want to pick a different position within the religion's structure, you may replace it with something that goes just as hard.
The other three are sinners who ended up in hell after death. All of them must know the Inquisitor from when they were alive, and willing to work together with him.
==== Character generation: mechanics ====Level 4. Optional rules: Free Archetype, Proficiency without Level, Gradual Ability Boost.
Features that make you partially undead or demonic (e.g., dhampirs, demonic nephilim) are not allowed.
Ancestries with an questionable souls, such as automatons, are not allowed.
There is no resurrection magic. Once someone dies, their soul goes to heaven/hell, and no one has ever returned from there.
Any features tied to gods are redirected to the one God – there are no others – but "mechanically" you may take any standard deity from the rules.
Any features involving other planes – ask whether they're allowed, and how they would work lore-wise.
The Inquisitor starts with the standard inventory for fourth level and a free trained rank in the Religion skill (if already trained, in any other skill). Sinners start with no inventory.
I recommend making characters who are at least somewhat combat-capable on their own, not pure support builds. You may need to split up.
Don't bother with languages – in hell everyone automatically understands each other.
==== Other ====Combat, dialogue, or other scenes requiring quick responses are played out on Discord and reposted to the forum. The game is fast-paced.
Instead of experience points, you gain levels at story milestones. Level progression will be fast.
The "flying crocodiles" rule does not apply. If the GM says something that doesn't make sense, correct them. Never hesitate to retcon and fix something that already happened.
The "brick" rule does not apply. If it's clear from the context of a description that there should be a brick nearby, you can pick it up. If needed I'll retcon it; better to ask forgiveness than permission.
You are not Doom Guys. Hell is scary and dangerous, and you are dirt beneath demons' boots. You'll need to push through despite everything, choosing your battles and trying again if it doesn't work out (there will be second chances). In this game you can win, and you can lose.
It's not easy to die in Hell – Dying 4 is a major setback, but doesn't automatically mean death or defeat. But if you die, you die – you cannot generate a new character. If the Inquisitor or his beloved dies, the game ends in defeat.
The first arc will only involve the Inquisitor. The others will be woven into the story later.
The game takes place literally in hell – expect to encounter all sorts of depravity. 18+.
